Album name:Sad Movies And Other Tales Of Woe
Crossover Country / Pop songstress Sue Thompson became an unlikely 'overnight success' in the summer of 1961 when her tongue in cheek reading of John D. Loudermilk's idiosyncratic 'Sad Movies (Make Me Cry)' made the US Top 5 and sold a million copies. Ironically, Thompson already in her mid 30s and established as a popular live and TV singer, with a ten year recording career for three major record companies behind her. She's sung the number in a mock-teenaged girl's voice, so consequently when she appeared on TV to promote it, she had to 'dress down' and masquerade as someone fifteen years younger. This compilation anthologies her recordings for the Hickory label in 1961 & 1962, which runs to seven singles, six of which were US hits, and two LPs 'Meet Sue Thompson' and 'Two Of A Kind'/ In addition to 'Sad Movies', she charted with 'Norman' (a second consecutive million seller). 'Two Of A Kind', 'Have A Good Time', 'James (Hold The Ladder Steady)' and 'Willie Can'. Several of her album tracks have never previously appeared on CD, which makes this a genuinely unique package.
